Our Client has an immediate opening for a Mining Superintendent at their underground mine in Goderich, Ontario. Goderich is a beautiful community of 7,500 situated on the shore of Lake Huron, about an hour’s drive North of London. The mine has an annual production capacity of over 6,000,000 tons of de-icing and chemical salt with extensive reserves and serves customers throughout the Great Lakes region in Canada and the United States.
This position reports to the Mine Manager and is responsible for:
•Management and budgetary responsibility for Mining Operations
•Providing leadership for the mining and support services department, promoting safety and productivity
•Short and long term planning of underground mining with respect to production demands, ground control, underground ventilation, crusher and conveyor belt placement, mining equipment needs, and general mine layout
•Planning for necessary labour requirements
•Dealing with daily problems, while meeting the production plan and budget
•Constantly reviewing performance data to develop and implement changes necessary to improve safety, productivity and lower production costs
•Ensuring safety incidents are thoroughly investigated and recommendations implemented
•Management representative on joint health and safety committee
•Coordinating production needs and planned maintenance activities with the maintenance department
•Developing specifications for new mining equipment, assist in the sourcing and purchase
•Development, implementation of safety and productivity improvement programs
•Ensuring customer product specifications are met
•Taking part in company/union negotiations
•Managing employee concerns, suggestions, complaints and grievances
•Contributing to the development of annual operating and capital budgets
•Contributing to the development and engineering projects and coordinate engineering needs from other departments during project implementation
•Aiding the mine Manager in the management of the mine, and act as manager in his absence.
Applicants must have a Bachelors Degree in Engineering – Mining or Mechanical, 10 years of Mining Experience, and 3-5 years Senior Supervisory experience. This position will directly Supervise 2 General foremen and clerical activities, and indirectly Supervise 10 Supervisors and up to 200 hourly employees. The candidate must be proficient in the use of Excel, Word. Must also be knowledgeable in the use of modern CMMS systems.
