This position is responsible for the processing of packaging requests, structural design of packaging components, maintenance of Packaging Systems Manual and ISO standards; packaging audits of manufacturing plants; review and recommendation of packaging equipment to increase production levels while reducing manufacturing costs; assists in disposition of packaging ECO’s (Engineering Change Orders). This position also interfaces with packaging vendors in the execution of projects and is familiar with all aspects of packaging production.
1.Review and process packaging requests submitted by all BUs/Market Channels within established ISO processes. Assigning work to department and plant resources, ensuring work is completed per project schedules through daily interaction, weekly meetings and maintenance of Pack Track project tracking system. Reporting to Director weekly or as needed.
2.Design packaging components (boxes, cards, clamshells, displays, etc) for form, fit and function based on product, customer, and marketing requirements. Work in conjunction with packaging vendors and manufacturing facilities in finalizing designs to assure manufacturability and ease of packaging assembly. Review of existing packaging for improvement in design, consolidation, and reduction in procurement and processing costs. Test packaging designs to ISTA or UPS standards to assure protection of product during shipping.
3.Update and maintenance of Packaging Systems Manual to latest industry, or customer specifications. Implementation and enforcement of manual requirements across all BUs and manufacturing plants. Creation and update of packaging ISO procedures and forms, including training.
4.Maintain mainframe packaging databases which include, but is not limited to, packaging part numbers, UPCs, pack levels, pack modes, carton table files, item types, etc., and assists manufacturing facilities on usage and structure of packaging bill of materials. Initiates requests and works in conjunction with Information Systems Departments for mainframe packaging database improvements.
5.Audit manufacturing plants for conformance to established company standards, guidelines, and policies as per instituted schedules and procedures.
6.Specify/Approve carton designs and palletization schemes to standards.
7.Create mainframe packaging database reports for the review and analysis of packaging components and their properties as necessary and requested by management.
8.Research, review, and recommend new packaging equipment or systems to improve the overall efficiency of production as it relates to packaging of products.
9.Training of personnel on packaging standards, procedures, and industry requirements.
10.Entering packaging part numbers in Oracle/Legacy
1.Assist in disposition of packaging changes issued by Manufacturing Facilities, Engineering, Marketing, or any relevant department, through the use of Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s).
2.Assist in creation of packaging metric reports
3.Assist in creation of packaging designs using CAD or Mac layout programs
Skills & Abilities:
•Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes, systems, and packaging equipment required.
•Must have CAD (SolidWorks), Graphic Design (InDesign, Illustrator, or similar), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Lotus, etc.) knowledge
•Familiar with Mac Based systems and software.
Education & Experience:
•A Bachelors Degree in Packaging, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
•Minimum of 2 to 4 years experience in Package Design in a Manufacturing Environment is typically required.
•Experience with Mainframe systems
