OVERALL ACCOUNTABILITY
The purpose of this role is to provide direct input and implementation support of a mining strategy across Continental Africa Region in order to achieve optimum performance of the regions assets The Senior Specialist ,Mining will give strategic advice and leadership to an array of disciplines while working with all areas to ensure the mine’s operation strategy and initiatives are aligned with and in support of overall vision ,values and objectives and that effective and appropriate measures are in place.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
Along with a degree in mining BSc. or Civil Engineering and preferably a Certificate of Competency in mining such as a Mine Managers Certification the position requires at least eight to ten years relevant post graduate mining exposure with at least three years at the management level in open pit mining.
Will have proven experience in all aspects of open pit mining operations including load, haul, drill and blast along with planning processes, contract compiling, financial models and project management. In addition, experience in heavy mining equipment practices such as applications and operational constraints along with mine software systems Datamine, Whittle, Xpac, Xeras is essential.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
•Effectively manages a number of interdependent processes e.g. blasting while balancing the demands of diverse priorities and situations in order to achieve planned outputs.
•Continually generates innovative mining solutions which improve the performance of existing assets, products, services, or processes to ensure adequate volumes of ore availability for metallurgical processing and obtaining competitive results in safety, cost reduction and production initiatives.
•Provide technical specialist advice to the Business Units in terms of input into the mining plans and integrated operating model to product P2V and budget.
•With input from the Business Units, develop and implement mining guidelines, standards, processes and systems that are aligned with overall Corporate policy and standards.
•Ensure the effective coordination of expertise and experience both within and across team boundaries to achieve operational objectives.
•Provide advice and technical input to the development of capital expenditure plans.
•Initiate, maintain and review performance benchmarks.
•Appraise and evaluate the results of implemented mining strategies regularly and systematically and report these findings to the V.P. Mining.
