We are recruiting for a Technical Writer to join our team in Austin, TX.  The Tech Writer will be embedded in an agile-based organization and will be a contributing member of the team.  They will develop, write, and edit material for manuals and related to technical publications concerned with the installation, operation, and configuration of systems.  This is a staff-level position involved in the execution of specific rules and procedures in completing work assignments and projects.
 

MUST BE A US CITIZEN AND HAVE A CURRENT US SECURITY  CLEARANCE OR THE ABILITY TO OBTAIN ONE.
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops, writes, and edits technical materials, such as manuals and related publications concerned with the installation, operation, and configuration of systems; online help reference information; and related information.
• Strong background in and knowledge of DITA XML
• Conducts research and gathers and organizes information necessary to create documentation essential to various projects; interviews engineering staff, reviews existing documentation, and tests products as appropriate to assist in documentation functions.
• Maintains records and files of work and revisions.
• Selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate materials as appropriate.
• Reviews documentation for quality assurance purposes and edits materials as appropriate.

 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Requires a Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Journalism, or a related field.
• Requires 2+ years of technical writing experience.

• Knowledge of technical writing principles, processes, techniques, and procedures
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to select work methods among approved routines and set priorities or sequencing of tasks
• Skill in maintaining contact with others within the organization in order to obtain information
• Skill in investigating and analyzing technical information and indicating logical conclusions or recommendations
• Expereince using an XML editor
• Experience with Adobe FrameMaker, RoboHelp, Acrobat Pro, PhotoShop, Illustrator and related technical writing software
• Skill in organizing material and completing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
